Fungus fest and feast

Every September the woods of southern New England come alive with wild mushrooms and other colorful fungi. To celebrate the season, the flavors, and mystique of wild Shroom.JPGmushrooms, the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center in Mystic, Conn. is planning the biggest and best Wild Mushroom Festival yet. It's scheduled for Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. Local restaurants, brewers and growers will be there. Admittance costs $15 for a non-member.

Feast your senses on fresh, delicious mushroom dishes prepared by chefs from the area's finest restaurants. Enjoy live music and sip locally produced black currant juice, beer or wine as you stroll beneath an autumn canopy of leaves.

Join Connecticut Valley Mycological Society experts for a mushroom identification walk, or learn about mushroom anatomy under a microscope.You can even bring in your own unusual fungal finds and have them identified.

Confirmed restaurants and brewers as of today include: Cottrell Brewing, Daniel Packer Inne, The Fisherman, Flood Tide, Jasper White's Summer Shack, La Belle Aurore Maple Lane Farms, Norms Best, Puritan & Genesta, RiverWalk, Seamen's Inne,and Singapore's Grill.

Please do not eat any wild mushroom that you cannot positively identify.
