Looking for a fun way to change up your workout with a relatively inexpensive piece of equipment?

You might want to try the BOSU ball or "balance trainer" which looks like a stability ball cut in half.

Invented in 1999 by David Weck, the name is an acronym which stands for "Both Sides Utilized," or "Both Sides Up".

This combination of stable/unstable surfaces allows for a wide range of uses and all fitness types, from beginners to advanced fitness buffs. With the dome side up, it can be used for athletic drills and aerobic activities, but it can also be flipped over so that the platform faces up to make for a more challenging platform.

I'm a big BOSU fan. I used one yesterday during my workout, and the challenge of maintaining your balance while doing hamstring curls, tricep extensions or other activities adds another fun dimenion to my workout. From what I understand, physical therapists also use them for rehabilitation exercises, so they are multifaceted pieces of equipment.
