Nine-year-old Grace Scott, a third-grade student at Frenchtown Elementary School in East Greenwich, is climbing to new heights at new speeds. She recently finished first in her division for speed climbing and second for difficulty climbing, to qualify for the USA Climbing national championship in Utah next month. Grace started climbing when she was 7. During the regional competition in Boston, Melissa Jay, 15, of Sharon, Mass., another member of the Rhode Island Rock Gym, also qualified to compete at the nationals. The top climbers at nationals will be invited to join the USA Climbing Team and represent the U.S. at international competitions. |
