Laurie Coco, right, and her daughters, Angelina and Lilly, paddled the Blackstone yesterday.

You don't have to own a boat to go paddling on one of the most scenic stretches of the Blackstone River.

On most Sundays through the summer, the Blackstone River Watershed Association has a fleet of canoes for their members to use at River Bend Farm in the Blackstone Heritage State Park in Uxbridge, Mass. The park is part of the John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor.

The watershed association has boats for its members to use at no charge. Membership costs as little as $10.

River Bend Farm is a 1,000-acre facility with miles of trails for walking or mountain biking. Kathryn Parent, the park interpreter, offers guided walks.

The park contains a visitor center with educational exhibits, and there are free concerts and other activities on weekends.

The stretch of the Blackstone that flows through the park is gorgeous, especially during the summer when wildflowers are in blossom, and in autumn when red maples are aflame.
