Winter is the time to curl up with a sport that rocks

curling.jpg"Get ready for the Winter Olympics 2010," writes Kathy Brady-Romanelli."The fastest growing winter sport -- curling -- is coming to Rhode Island this season.The newly formed Ocean State Curling Club is hosting a Learn to Curl Program on Sunday, Oct. 4 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the St. George's Ice Rink, 372 Purgatory Road, Middletown, RI. Directions are available at www.stgeorges.edu. The fee to attend this class is $50. Membership and league information will be available at the Learn to Curl program. Sign up today by sending an email to info@oceanstatecurling.com or via telephone at 401-353-2232. Online registration is available at www.learnconnect.com, search for keyword curling.

"Participants should wear soft-soled sneakers and a sweater for the time on the ice. A video on the sport will be shown followed by on ice lessons. Curling has been an Olympic sport since 1998. A US team won the Bronze medal in Torino in 2006.

Tried it last year at a Learn to Curl Program for FREE. I loved it and would suggest it to others. Ice time can get a bit expenisve though. But it really is a blast. Watching it on TV during the Olympics can get you interested but there is nothing like getting out there and doing it.

BTW, it's not nearly as easy as it looks on TV.
