What sweet irony you'll find at the Rhode Island Convention Center this weekend!

My blogging partner, Pam Cotter reports that more than 400 people have signed up for the New England Iyengar Yoga Conference at the Rhode Island Convention Center on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

While they're engaged in their contemplative practice, the R.I. Riveters will be doing their best to crush The Stepford Sabotage as Providence Roller Derby returns to the city for two bouts.

The Riveters and Stepford Sabotages are scheduled to roll at 6 p.m., and the Killah Bees will take on the Western Ma Destruction at 8:30.

All the local action coincides with the debut of Drew Barrymore's new film Whip It.

If you're interested in skating or becoming a referee next season, there will be recruiting night Oct. 29 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Narragansett Ocean Club in Narragansett.

Providence Roller Derby was awarded "Best Role Model for Young Girls" by Rhode Island Monthly. They do a lot of work for our neighbors in need.
